Chocolate Mixed Berry Crisp

Mr. Owen is coming over today to make his famously delicious Hungarian Goulash and I volunteered to make dessert. Looking over our currently meagre stores, I discovered I had exactly what I need to make a berry crisp! Then I realized the only thing that could make that better was to add chocolate and so voila! This dish was born. Super easy and very quick to throw together thanks to the use of the frozen berries that we had in our freezer. You could of course use fresh berries or really any other kind of fruit that you like.

If you are some kind of weirdo and don't like chocolate, you can easily omit the chocolate chips. The pecans I just added for extra crunch so you could always omit those too or replace them with another kind of nut if you'd like.

24 oz frozen mixed berries
1/4 cup white sugar
1 cup of flour, divided
1 tablespoon lemon juice
3/4 cup old fashioned oats
2/3 cup dark brown sugar, packed (you could use light or golden too but I like the flavor of the dark brown the best)
1 teaspoon cinammon
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon cardamom
1/4 teaspoon salt
8 tablespoons butter, cut into chunks
1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/4 cup pecans, smooshed up into small pieces

1. Preheat oven to 375 and grease a 9" pie pan

2. In a large bowl combine the berries, 1/4 cup white sugar, 1/4 cup of flour, and lemon juice. Stir until berries are coated with the mixture. Then pour mix into prepared pie pan.

3. In another bowl combine the rest of the flour, oats, brown sugar, spices, chocolate chips, pecans, and salt. Mix until everything is evenly distributed. Add the butter and with your hads rub the butter into the oat mixture until everything is blended with the butter and it forms a moist, clumpy mixture
this is what it should like once it's all mixed up

4. Distribute the mixture on top of the berries evenly and bake for around 1 hour or until the mixture is bubbly and the top is golden brown. Let cool for at least 15 minutes before serving or you will melt your face off.

Serve with vanilla ice cream for maxium tastiness. Mark gave it an 8 without ice cream and an 8 1/2 NOMS with ice cream. Our guest Nommer Owen also gave it a solid 8. Definitely will make again.
